Live from Hialeah
it’s Manny Ortega,
please hold your applause,
not because of any desire on my part to exercise modesty.
Modesty is innate to those without a
face well known in all fifty states and beyond,
we who humbly live in the shadows
of gods flickering from screens
giving us relenting dreams,
unattainable dreams.
Fifteen minutes of fame,
the goal is set in our brain,
please show me the way
Kim Kardashian my guide
in your eight inch heels
I will walk a mile
and the crowd goes wild
and the flashes glitter.
I have arrived
and the moment is now
you may applaud.

Hug
When we can't be
with the ones we love,
when a special moment
passes by,
when a hug is missed
or perhaps a kiss
and we long to hold
the ones we miss.
Think about the times
that we have shared
and the ones to come
in times yet spared,
think about my arms
open wide,
for you to come
and fill them up.
with the ones we love,
when a special moment
passes by,
when a hug is missed
or perhaps a kiss
and we long to hold
the ones we miss.
Think about the times
that we have shared
and the ones to come
in times yet spared,
think about my arms
open wide,
for you to come
and fill them up.

Roses and violets
Roses are red
Violets are blue,
That’s the way we were taught
When we were yet new;
And then we read
And then we grew
And then we knew
There was more to a poem
Then red and blue.
We painted the sky
A different hue.
And now we’re so smart
It’s gone to our head.
Yes;
we are the chosen few
And the child we knew
Is left behind.
Yet still in our heart
We know it’s true.
Roses are red
Violets are blue,
Is still the best way,
To say I love you.

Endless night
…let this night endless
not slip between our fingers
held tightly, clasp
our lips
our hearts.
…let goodbye fall
from every tongue
every language
remain unspoken,
our kiss will do the talking
and our words will be loud.
not slip between our fingers
held tightly, clasp
our lips
our hearts.
…let goodbye fall
from every tongue
every language
remain unspoken,
our kiss will do the talking
and our words will be loud.

Christmas
This year my handsome 11 year old gave my first Christmas present in the form of this poem.
By: Christian Ortega
On Christmas all is well, all is fine,
Everybody’s happy, everybody’s kind.
The family comes together, the family celebrates
As all the time all the wait
Has passed along, passed away
For Christmas time and Christmas Day
Have come along to celebrate.
Come all, come eat
Enjoy the food, enjoy the feast
Have seconds, have thirds,
Drink water, drink soda,
Just fill your belly, quench your thirst.
Unwrap the presents, you go first,
I got a toy, I got a shirt.
What did you get?
It is very late, it is time to go to bed
For Christmas time and Christmas Day
Have come along and gone away.
Everybody’s happy, everybody’s kind.
The family comes together, the family celebrates
As all the time all the wait
Has passed along, passed away
For Christmas time and Christmas Day
Have come along to celebrate.
Come all, come eat
Enjoy the food, enjoy the feast
Have seconds, have thirds,
Drink water, drink soda,
Just fill your belly, quench your thirst.
Unwrap the presents, you go first,
I got a toy, I got a shirt.
What did you get?
It is very late, it is time to go to bed
For Christmas time and Christmas Day
Have come along and gone away.

On this day
Come and sit
I insist,
all today with common ground
at this table
feast abound,
pilgrims genesis
our delight,
with gratitude,
celestial latitude,
in one accord
our hearts we bind,
before creator
humbly bow,
then to your right
and to your left
embrace your neighbor,
embrace a friend,
Amen;
Now pass me a piece
of pumpkin pie.
I insist,
all today with common ground
at this table
feast abound,
pilgrims genesis
our delight,
with gratitude,
celestial latitude,
in one accord
our hearts we bind,
before creator
humbly bow,
then to your right
and to your left
embrace your neighbor,
embrace a friend,
Amen;
Now pass me a piece
of pumpkin pie.
